The Youngs

“Mr. Deaton, God has sent me to Jackson, Tennessee to minister to women. But you have the power to send me away. And he said, ‘No. If God has called you to Jackson, I’m not sending you anywhere.'”
       - one of the first conversations between nathan young and Gary Deaton, Board Chairman.

Between Memphis and Nashville in 1992, there wasn’t a center for homeless women. Many women and their children were forced to stay in abusive relationships and other dangerous situations as a result of having nowhere to turn for help in rural West Tennessee.

Meanwhile, a man named Nathan Young and his wife were praying about God’s will in their lives some 600 miles away in Pennsylvania. A former abuser of not only alcohol but also women, Nathan’s relationship with the Lord reformed every aspect of his life. He had repented fully and had been running multi-million dollar businesses. But the Lord had been confirming to both of them that it was time to move into full time ministry.

When Nathan shared this calling to his brother, his brother began to tell him of the need for a woman’s shelter in his town - Jackson, TN. In fact, his brother knew of a shelter that was no longer operational - The Care Center.

Nathan met with the board members and, after much prayer, they all agreed that God was calling Nathan to relocate his wife and two small children to Jackson, TN to bring life back to The Care Center.

They moved into the house which was bug-infested and didn’t have any operational plumbing or consumable food. Nathan and Susan began to make their needs known to the Lord, and the Lord provided in big ways. Over the past two decades of living in that household, over 3,700 people have passed through for help. And the Lord has allowed the Young family to watch Him at work.
